THE CHEF: Prior to opening Bistro Laurent, Chef Laurent Grangien was the Head Chef of two of Michel Rostang’s celebrated, Michelin starred, Parisian restaurants: Maison Rostang and Le Bistrot d'à Côté Flaubert. In 1991, Laurent and his family moved from Paris, France to Santa Monica, California to helm Michel Rostang's newly opened Restaurant Fennel in Santa Monica. Under Chef Laurent's leadership, the restaurant was a resounding success. In her review of Fennel, Ruth Reichl, esteemed critic, author and former editor-in-chief of Gourmet Magazine proclaimed...“This is not imitation French food - this is the real thing. And it tastes like it.”
Once in Santa Monica, Laurent fell in love with idea of one day opening a bistro on the Central Coast of California. Enticed by the area’s natural beauty and the opportunity to pair local ingredients with local wines, Laurent decided Paso Robles was the perfect setting.
